Walgreens collaborates with Kroger to work on its grocery pilot

Walgreens Company, a USA-based pharma chain, has recently made it to the headlines for entering into a partnership agreement with fellow American processed food manufacturer Kroger Co.

According to credible sources, Walgreens is looking forward to expand its pilot program of grocery department with the Kroger Express grocery section within its drugstore chains. It has been reported that it intends to sell about 2,300 Kroger products including Kroger’s organic brand Simple Truth and Home Chef meal kits at 13 Walgreens test stores located in Northern Kentucky.

The companies reportedly stated that one Kroger Express shop is presently operating in Florence and the remaining twelve stores will start operating by the start of the next year. The grocery chain has stockpiled its Home Chef kits in several stores of the pharmacy’s Chicago sites.

Hey further added that the Home Chef Express meal kits will biweekly rotate recipes, offering three unique options in the participating Walgreens’ Kentucky stores. Recipes are also available for the delivery via Home Chef’s website, where shoppers can find variety.

As reported by Supermarket News, the companies said that the association of the biggest supermarket retailer and the leading drug chain aims to promote a comfortable experience of one-stop shopping for groceries, pharmacy, food, health, and beauty.

Kroger started to roll out the meal kits across all supermarket banners from October and the first kits were made available in Illinois at Mariano’s stores, cite sources.

Robert Clark, Kroger’s Senior VP of merchandising, was quoted stating that innovative partnerships of the company like the one with Walgreens, are redefining customer experience through Restock Kroger. He further added that the Kroger Express concept gives easy access to the company’s Our Brands products through an experience of fill-in grocery shopping for Walgreens customers.

Amazon’s rapidly expanding Whole Foods market is further daunting the grocers and is in turn impelling them to look for options that make them more competitive in the race. If industry experts are to be believed, the collaboration is dedicated to give both the companies a competitive edge, given the decreasing sale of household products impacting pharmacies.
